January 2013 Events Image

So, maybe we forgot to do an events preview last month. Whoops! Now we’re back, though, and looking ahead to spring because – quite frankly – we are sick of this cold, snowy New England weather.

With new weather on its way here, here are a few March events we’re looking forward to:

Concerts

Taylor Swift: Taylor Swift has been on fire with her latest album, "Red," and its first few singles. The country singer’s latest tour finally kicks off March 13.

View Tickets »

Kenny Chesney: Kenney Chesney’s 2013 tour starts March 12. Chesney will tour with Zac Brown Band, Eli Young Band, Kacey Musgraves, and Eric Church, although the lineup in each city is different.

View Tickets »

Rihanna: Her 2013 Diamonds World Tour with ASAP Rocky begins in Buffalo, NY, on March 8. It’s scheduled to end July 20 in France.

Other Concerts in March:

  • Allman Brothers Band begins their Beacon Theater run on Friday.
  • Alicia Keys begins a tour on March 7.
  • Eric Clapton begins a tour on March 14.
  • Elton John begins a brief tour on March 15.
  • Shania Twain’s Las Vegas run begins on March 19.
  • Def Leppard begins a tour on March 22.
  • The Ultra Music Festival runs from March 15 to 17 and then again March 23 to 25. The two weekends do have different lineups and schedules (albeit with some of the same performers at each one).

The most influential guitarists of 2012

Illustration of a guitarist

You may remember that last month I posted the first article in our "Most influential of 2012" series. I asked people who write about drumming who they thought was the most influential drummer of 2012.

This time the series focuses on guitarists. Whole lists have been published on this subject, with Rolling Stones' "100 Greatest Guitarists" article perhaps the best known. So we know who the best and most influential guitarists of all time are, but who brought something new to the art in 2012 specifically? That is the question I asked a number of bloggers, and I received a couple great responses.

The first to get back to me was Josh Evitt, a guitar player from Nashville, TN, who writes at Guitar Lifestyle. Evitt told me about a blues-rocker whose impact was really felt last year.

Top 5 reasons we love Psych

"Psych" fans like me have been waiting what feels like forever for the show to return. It left us almost a whole year ago and we’ve been waiting for new episodes since. The wait was long and painstaking and it felt like a pop culture hole was missing in our hearts. And honestly? We missed the hijinx of fake-psychic-detective Shawn and his sidekick, Gus. Here are some of the reasons why we were so excited for the show’s seventh season premiere last night.

The silliness

The show's premise is a little silly, but "Psych" tries to show viewers the showrunners don't take themselves too seriously with funny things like Shawn’s never-ending list of nicknames for Gus. Some of my favorites: Galileo Humpkins, Ovaltine Jenkins, Chocolate Columbo, and Felicia Fancybottom.
