I mentioned in my post on Friday that I was on my way to see the Backstreet Boys and I wasn't lying. I am wholeheartedly (still) a Backstreet Boys fan and their show in Camden, NJ on Friday, Aug. 16, marked my 10th Backstreet Boys concert. I had pit tickets, as well as their Gold VIP Package. So how'd it go? Was it worth it? Am I full of regret for how much money I spent on just one evening? Am I just really embarrassed that I'm an adult and this is my life?

The Backstreet Boys announced they'll embark on a summer 2013 tour, starting in August. If you follow the blog at all, then you know I'm kind of a fan, so I'm extremely pumped. The "In A World Like This" tour kicks off in Chicago, IL on Friday, Aug. 2, and wraps in Concord, CA, Sunday, Sept. 8. Currently, the band is touring in China.

The general on sale for most tour dates will happen this Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. local time (12 p.m. local time for Chicago). A pre-sale for exclusive BSB fan club members starts Wednesday, May 15, 7 a.m. local time. Tickets will be available soon, so keep checking back! In the meantime, for a full list of dates, click the cut. (And OMG! I can't wait!)

This week, the world bids adieu to life as we know it, guidos and guidettes, and the Miss Universe competition.

Apocalypse now?

You probably woke up this morning, got your coffee and strolled into work just like any other day, totally forgetting that today is supposed to be the end of the world. Yet people have been freaking out over the Mayan prediction that there would be some sort of apocalypse today, December 21, 2012 — some joking, some serious, and some just wondering if the world does end, what will happen to their Christmas gifts? Nevermind the fact that each area of the world would enter December 21, 2012 at a different time (in which time zone were we supposed to die again?), or that “Mayans” still exist today and they were never on the apocalypse train. So I guess it’s no surprise that we’re still alive and kicking, although it did spawn some pretty funny survival guides and Twitter jokes, like Hugh Hefner’s soon-to-be-bride (again!) Crystal Harris saying, "People are making apocalypse jokes like there's no tomorrow."

Gym, Tan, Leaving

The equally loved and reviled reality show Jersey Shore has come to an end. Goodbye duck phone. Goodbye boardwalk. Goodbye you-probably-need-a-hazmat-to-go-in-there smush room. Last night we all said goodbye to Seaside Heights for the final time. I had a strange relationship with Jersey Shore, in that I like to say I "hate-watched" the show. It was honestly awful, with rampant sexism, over-the-top stupidity, and unnecessary violence. And yet I couldn't look away. I knew I shouldn't support the show. I shouldn't know every single plot line and have seen every single episode. But I did, and I do. Jersey Shore became such a phenomenon that it inspired fake tans, blowouts, and a weird assortment of acronyms like GTL and DTF. The cast starred in an Enrique Iglesias music video, and even inspired an awesome Jimmy Fallon skit featuring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. As much as I had to admit it, I'll kind of miss you, Jersey Shore. Except The Situation. He's the worst.

Miss Universe

For the first time in 15 years, a contestant from the U.S. was crowned Miss Universe during this week’s pageant. The 20-year-old from Rhode Island was a cellist for 13 years, performing at Boston Symphony Hall and Cernegie Hall. She beat out 88 other contestants for her crown. Awesome. But it was the third-place winner, Miss Venezuela, that nabbed the attention of news outlets. Asked a question in Spanish, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero opted to reply in English. The results were a bit messy, but I say she totally rocked it by going out on a limb and trying to speak another language. And… well, she didn't do any worse than English-speaking Miss Teen USA 2007, who uttered the phrase, "like, such as in South Africa, and the Iraq, everywhere, such as."

Try not to let the end of the Jersey Shore bring you down and have a great weekend, everyone!
