Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP Lacks in Substance, Stacked in Production

The following is a guest article by Sam Lowy.

Lady Gaga has turned herself into one of the most iconic pop stars of our generation. There really is no debating the fact that Gaga is one of the most diverse and entertaining celebrities in the media. Known for her commentary on pop culture and the "fame monster," Lady Gaga has been one of the few celebs to turn the entertainment community on its head. Her past albums, which have all been huge successes, have all had a similar theme regarding such matters, but with her newest release, ARTPOP, has the controversial artist finally beaten the horse dead?

With her debut single of the record, "Applause," Gaga continues her satirical commentary of fame, stating she "live[s] for the applause," and "the way that [we] cheer and scream" for her, and while the song is somewhat catchy, in the end it really just seems to fall flat. Without any truly deep or inspiring lyrics, the listener is left with an instrumental track that is, again, lacking of any real substance. The song is honestly quite weak on all accounts and is just a regurgitation of past Gaga themes of fame and culture.

A few weeks ago, we directed you to an adorable 6-year-old break dancer. This week, an 11-year-old dancing to Lady Gaga's song "Applause" is so good, we kind of need him to star in Gaga's next video. Can she please make that happen?

5 Songs That Totally Sound the Same

Critics of the Katy Perry released her latest single, "Roar," have said her song sounds an awful lot like Sara Bareillis' song, "Brave." Obviously the whole "hey, that song totally sounds like ___!" has been around for a while.

Ask any super jaded music fan and they'll tell you there's no such thing as original music anymore, just the same stuff re-hashed over and over. Personally, I am only offended when songs sound alike and both versions are terrible because I don't want to encourage more terrible music in this world. That said, here are five undeniably similar songs, starting with Katy and Sara.

Katy Perry v. Sara Bareillis

The opening chords, the music breakdowns, that piano in the background? Yeah, these "Roar" and "Brave" definitely sound like they were at least influenced by one another. Plus, Katy Perry definitely tweeted a few months ago that she loved Sara's song. Does that really mean anything? No. But whatever, y'all, it's gossip.

I hope y'all like pop stars, Oprah, and boy bands, because that's where this post is going. You're welcome!

Pop Star Comebacks

As we mentioned earlier this week, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have released new music to kick off their returns to the world of pop music. One of their singles, "Applause" and "Roar," will likely oust "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke from the Billboard Hot 100 next week. Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake took to Instagram to release the entire track list for the second half of "The 20/20 Experience." Some of his new songs include "True Blood," "Cabaret," and "Murder." Justin Timberlake also announced some new fall dates for his tour. More Justin Timberlake = happy world.
