May 2014 Events Image

This May is marked by prolific events in concerts and sports. Dave Matthews launches its 2014 summer tour; Gaga trades the Roseland Ballroom for artRave; and a handful of festivals kick off May 1. In sports, Floyd Mayweather faces off against Marcos Maidana in Vegas, while various playoffs (including hockey and basketball) continue.

It's a quiet month for Broadway, but touring shows, such as Wicked and The Book of Mormon are going strong. Plus, a new Cirque show debuts and Queen-inspired musical heads to the states.

Concerts

Dave Matthews Band: Ready for another summer with Dave Matthews Band? The band, notorious for performing each summer, kicks off their 2014 tour May 16 with a show in Spring, TX. They'll continue through early September, before wrapping up in Irvine, CA.

Backstreet Boys: The boy band's In A World Like This tour began last year and it returns for another North American. It officially starts May 3, with the U.S. dates beginning May 22 with a show in Seattle, WA. They will be joined on the road with Avril Lavigne.

Lady Gaga: In March, the singer performed several shows at the Roseland Ballroom; this month, Lady Gaga begins her artRave Tour, in support of her ARTPOP album. Her first show is May 4 in Sunrise, FL; the tour will visit cities such as Pittsburgh, PA; Washington, DC; Detroit, MI; and Los Angeles, CA.

Although it doesn't much feel like spring, April is nearly upon us. With it comes the re-awakening of the Broadway stage (yay!); a bunch of fantastic sports playoffs (yay!); and some pretty great tours (yay!).

In concerts, popular acts such as Jimmy Buffett and Bruce Springsteen hit the road. Sports fans have playoffs in basketball and in hockey to look forward to. For theater buffs, Broadway is finally getting back into the swing of things after the winter lull; more than 10 shows will open in April alone.

Here's a closer look at some of the upcoming live events.

Concerts

Bruce Springsteen: The Boss heads out on another tour, starting April 8 in Cincinnati, OH. The short stint goes through March 18 and wraps in Uncasville, CT.

Styx and Foreigner: The "Soundtrack of Summer" tour joins Foreigner, Styx, and Don Felder. All three acts are expected to release a compilation album to go with the tour, which starts April 11.

Jimmy Buffett: Jimmy Buffett is known for his annual tours, and this year he teams up with The Coral Reefer Band. This One's For You Tour begins the 19th in Tampa, FL.

March 2014 Events Image

This month, the list of events to choose from in concerts, theater, and sports is robust. Starting with concerts, Cher, Arcade Fire, and Lorde will launch tours in March. Pop star Lady Gaga will launch a mini-tour with an intimate set of seven shows at the Roseland Ballroom in New York, New York.

In sports, the men’s basketball gets going and there are dozens of monster truck shows to attend across the U.S.

Wrapping things up with theater, we finally get the debut of a handful of Broadway shows, including one written by Sylvester Stallone and one starring starring Broadway veteran Idina Menzel.

Concerts

Arcade Fire: After the 2013 release of the album "Reflektor,” Arcade Fire is ready to hit the road. The Reflektor Tour begins March 6 in Louisville, KY. The band will take a break in April for a two-day festival performance in Tennessee, before resuming their tour April 23 in Denver, CO.

Cher: The legendary singer launches her seventh tour on March 22 in Phoenix, AZ. The Dressed to Kill Tour will feature Cher with Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo from March 27 through April 12; Cyndi Lauper will then replace Benatar and Giraldo for the shows from April through July.

Lady Gaga: In anticipation of her upcoming tour, artRAVE, Lady Gaga will perform a string of shows at Roseland Ballroom in New York, New Yok, starting March 28. Performances continue through April 7.

February 2013 Events Image

Following a bit of a live events slump in January, February is where things really start to pick up in concerts, sports, and theater. In concerts, big-name acts like Elton John and Billy Joel will start new tours, as well as other fan-favorites, including John Legend, Demi Lovato, and Kanye West.

In sports, the NBA All-Star Weekend features several events, including a celebrity game headlined by comedians Kevin Hart and Nick Cannon. Similarly, the MLB Spring Training lets us know that the winter weather is almost over (finally!).

Lastly, in theater, Broadway begins to show new signs of life with two shows that will open — Bronx Bombers and The Bridges of Madison County — while other big shows start their previews in February.

Concerts

Elton John: Elton John will take his show on the road, beginning February 1. This tour will coincide with the 40th anniversary of John's album, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.".

Imagine Dragons: Imagine Dragons will launch their 2014 tour Feb. 8 in Boise, ID. Prior to that, the band will perform Feb. 5 at Amnesty International with The Flaming Lips and The Fray.

John Legend: R&B singer John Legend begins his tour for his 2013 album, "Love in the Future," on Feb. 15. Legend's tour is scheduled to wrap up in June.

January 2013 Events Image

As we roll into 2014, we say farewell to all of the holiday-themed concerts that were so prevalent last month. Instead, it's time to start thinking about new tours, football, and a near-dead Broadway roster. (Just kidding about the last one, kind of.)

In concerts, the country music genre takes the reigns, with popular acts like George Strait and Florida Georgia Line kicking off their tours this year. Sports fans can check out the BCS National Championship Game (Florida State vs. Auburn) or any of the NFL playoffs. Lastly, in theater, three new shows will open up, including Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.

Luke Bryan: The country crooner's 2014 tour, That's My Kind of Night, is a follow-up to his 2013 Dirt Road Diaries tour. This one kicks off in Columbus, OH, Jan. 16 and continues well into 2014; it includes two special Madison Square Garden shows, on Jan. 25 and Sept. 12.

George Strait: 2014 will mark the final act for George Strait's two-year finale tour. The Cowboy Rides Away will add 26 additional dates in 2014, beginning Jan. 9 in Bossier, City, LA. Special guests for the tour will include Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Miranda Lambert, and Martina McBride.

Florida Georgia Line: Following a successful 2013, Florida Georgia Line begins its tour Jan. 16 in Des Moines, IA. The shows — with Jason Aldean and Tyler Farr — go through March 15; from there, Florida Georgia Line continues its tour with other acts through May.
