Top 5 Most Surprising NBA Teams So Far This Season

View Comments(0)

Toronto Raptors

Source: YouTube.com

The Toronto Raptors are by far the NBA’s biggest surprise of the season thus far. Led by veteran point guard Kyle Lowry, the Raptors are off to their best start in franchise history posting an 8-2 record through 10 games. The high-rising DeMar DeRozan leads the team averaging 21.2 PPG, while the 7-foot tall center Jonas Valanciunas is having a career season averaging 8 RPG and 11 PPG. The only NBA team located outside the U.S., the loyal Raptor fan-base has chanted and termed the phrase #WeTheNorth. Look for continued success from a team that is surprising the entire league with their energy and play-making ability.

My Prediction: Toronto will finish in the 5th spot in the Eastern Conference, behind Cleveland, Chicago (if Rose can stay healthy), Washington, and Miami.

Thanks to the addition of hometown hero LeBron James, as well as the soon-to-be addition of Kevin Love, Cleveland Cavaliers fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the 2014-15 NBA Schedule. After weeks of anticipation, the schedule was finally released last night which revealed the full 82 game schedule for the Cavs. If you are a fan of LeBron, the Cavs or just the NBA in general, here are the top five games you should be watching:

vs. New York Knicks

Date/Time: October 30, 2014 at 8 p.m.

The home opener. The game all of Cleveland (and probably the entire state of Ohio) has been dreaming about since LeBron announced he was coming home. It will be the first real game for the new-look Cavaliers which feature not only James, but also Kevin Love, who will be playing his first real minutes for the home team.

NBA Finals Predictions Round-up - Who Ya Got, Heat or Spurs?

NBA Finals Roundup

After seven long months, the NBA season has finally reached its epic conclusion with the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs battling it out to be crowned champion. It is a rematch of last year's NBA Finals, which turned out to be one of the all-time great series. Hopefully, this year turns out to be more of the same. I decided to round-up some the predictions from so-called "experts" to see who they thought would win. Oh, and I also threw in some other predictions as well.

ESPN.com San Antonio Spurs Using its prediction engine called "ESPN Forecast", the Worldwide Leader has chosen the Spurs. As we all know, ESPN has never been wrong.
Sports Illustrated San Antonio Spurs Another panel of experts for the Spurs (four of the six experts, at least).
TNT "Inside the NBA" Miami Heat How about an actual panel of previous NBA players? They seem to be leaning towards the Heat.
USA Today Split For the most part, USA Today seems to really represent the majority of those picking, split down the middle with a great case for both teams.
AccuScore San Antonio Spurs Accuscore simulates the series thousands of times to predict the outcome, and they have actually had a pretty good track record.
Vegas Oddsmakers San Antonio Spurs I'm always amazed at the people who set the betting lines in Vegas on how accurate they turn out to be. So, I'm probably trusting this prediction the most.
Flip of a Coin Miami Heat Of course, flipping a coin is the decisive way to decide something that is seemingly even matched and it has the Heat winning.
Rock-Paper-Scissors San Antonio Spurs Although some would argue that a game of RPS is a better way to decide a winner.
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe Miami Heat That being said, when you were a kid, EVERYTHING was decided with eeny, meeny, miny, moe.
Pick A Name From A Hat San Antonio Spurs Ok, well let's just pick a name out of a hat and be done with it. The Spurs are the choice.

Final Prediction: Who knows. This should be another great series between two great teams. Enjoy the series everybody!

Sports news

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant was named MVP. It was the first MVP award for the 25-year-old, who has been playing basketball for seven years. Durant was a contender for award in 2012 and 2013, but fell just shy of winning.

In his moving acceptance speech, Durant made sure to thank his teammates, coaches, and — of course — his mother. Of her, he said: "One my best memories I have is when we moved into our first apartment. No bed, no furniture, we all just sat in the living room and just hugged each other. We thought we made it. … You wake me up in the middle of the night in the summertime, making me run up a hill, making me do push-ups. Screaming at me from the sidelines of my games at eight or nine years old … When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You’re the real MVP."

Check out the full speech after the cut.

Clippers Owner Accused of Making Racist Remarks

Sports news

Los Angeles Clipper owner Donald Sterling was caught on tape making racist remarks. Sterling told his girlfriend, V. Stiviano, he didn't want her bringing black people to his games; his anger was ignited after she posted a photo on Instagram of her and Magic Johnson. The audio was originally posted by TMZ.

Sterling and the Clippers released a statement shortly thereafter stating, "We have heard the tape on TMZ. We do not know if it is legitimate or it has been altered," the statement said. "We do know that the woman on the tape -- who we believe released it to TMZ -- is the defendant in a lawsuit brought by the Sterling family, alleging that she embezzled more than $1.8 million, who told Mr. Sterling that she would 'get even.'"

Many reacted to the audio, including Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and President Obama. The NBA is currently investigating.
