It's the end of May, and this week: Will and Carlton reunited for the most awesome "Fresh Prince" throwback ever, some incredibly smart kids got their very well-deserved 15 minutes of fame, and we're still dissecting every second of "Arrested Development."
Fresh Prince of Bel Air, revived
Will Smith and his son, Jaden, have been making their rounds as of late to promote their newest film (out today) called "After Earth." They stopped by several talk shows, but undoubtedly the one that's most exciting is their appearance on the UK's "The Graham Norton Show." Though the interviews included some interesting chatter — including the fact that Kanye West has been urging Will Smith to get back in the studio and rap again — what had everyone talking was Will and Jaden rapping the "Fresh Prince" theme song, while DJ Jazzy Jeff played the music AND Alfonso Ribeiro (AKA Carlton from "Fresh Prince of Bel Air") did "The Carlton Dance"! It was an awesome moment for any former "Fresh Prince" fans (like me) who know all the words to the opening rap... because come on.
After a long but highly-anticipated wait, "Arrested Development" returned today for its fourth (and final?) season! It was available this morning at 3:01 a.m. ET/12:01 a.m. PT through Netflix, but if you're anything like me, you were already in bed, possibly dreaming about Ryan Gosling. However! I will likely be holed up inside for the rest of my weekend so I can watch the season (15 episodes!) before I see too many spoilers on the internet. (And you KNOW there will be.)
In honor of the show's return, here are some of my favorite ongoing jokes in the first three seasons of "Arrested Development":
If there's one thing the Bluth family can't do — aside from, you know, everything — it's imitate a chicken. Seriously, these people have no idea what a chicken looks like, how it sounds, or how it behaves. Michael has it right when he says, "Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?"
This week, it’s movies and television talk, part two, as we delve into late-night switch-ups, a beloved movie critic, and the return of a fan favorite show.
Tonight Show Switch-up
Rumors started swirling earlier this week that Jimmy Fallon would be replacing Jay Leno and take over "The Tonight Show" gig on NBC. The two released a cheeky video that didn’t really confirm nor deny the rumors (at left), but NBC confirmed on Wednesday that yes, Jay Leno would be stepping down from his late-night hosting gig to make room for Jimmy Fallon. "The Tonight Show" will also be moving back to NYC to its old home at 30 Rock. Jimmy Fallon said, " I’m really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow." (Get it? Because his current show starts after midnight?) Hopefully this sticks, because I love Jimmy — but I also know we’ve totally heard this before when Conan O’Brien took over Leno’s show and then had the hosting gig taken away. So I guess we’ll see!
You know how everyone talks about how awful it is to be alone around the holidays?
Apparently that fear extends to celebrities, businesses, and even satirical political commentators, as they’ve all decided to join one union or another just in time to have someone (or thing?) to kiss under the mistletoe.
Taylor Swift and Harry Styles
The union of Taylor Swift and One Direction’s Harry Styles caused an explosion within the tween (and, let’s be honest, teen and adult) blogospheres as the couple was spotted – get this – holding hands. The newly-confirmed relationship provided answers to "who will be the subject of Taylor’s next song?" and "WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ONE DIRECTION RIGHT AT THIS VERY MOMENT?" (caps lock necessary). It broke the hearts of many who wanted to date the superstars themselves, and even caused a few to balk at the age difference between Swift, who will be 23 next week, and Styles, who turned 18 in February. (Fun fact: Styles was born in 1994. Seriously.) Tonight, the two will team up for the Z100 Jingle Ball with Justin Bieber at Madison Square Garden – and there are miraculously still tickets left. All we can say to this is: OMG.
