It's almost inevitable, though the Broadway world isn't talking about it yet, that the musical drama Lazarus will be snapped up by producers to launch on the Great White Way. The Off-Broadway New York Theatre Workshop, the original home of both Rent and Once, has never before seen such a fast-selling show in its 36 year history of innovative and important theatre.

'Heathers' to Become Off-Broadway Musical in 2014

Theater news

The 1980s cult classic "Heathers" will officially be turned into an Off-Broadway musical. The show will open at New World Stages, with previews beginning March 17, 2014 and an opening night slate for March 31, 2014. It has already been performed in Los Angeles, where it had a successful run, including a sold-out premiere.

Heathers will be directed by Andy Fickman, while the book, music, and lyrics will be written by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe (who has worked on Legally Blonde). Marguerite Derricks will choreograph the show.

"Heathers," the film, was a dark teen comedy that starred Winona Ryder as a high school student named Veronica Sawyer who starts to hang out with Westerberg High's most popular clique — a group of Heathers. Veronica meets a mysterious boy named J.D. and accidentally sets off a series of suicides at the school. (It is better than it sounds, I swear.)

Would you consider seeing this onstage version of "Heathers"?
