...What? Are you telling us you don't celebrate Talk Like A Pirate Day? Sheesh, you may be missing out. International Talk Like A Pirate Day dates back decades (for real) to 1955. Ol' Chumbucket and Cap'n Slappy of Albany, Oregon (not sure how they got to Oregon from the sea) decided each year, on September 19, we'd all celebrate pirates. So why aren't you? Here are a few "pirate words" to work into your vocabulary today!
- Ahoy: Say this instead of boring old "hello" or "hi."
- Matey: Today, people aren't your "friends" or your "buddies" — they're your mateys!
- Aye aye: Can be followed up by the word "captain," but this phrase is to be used to agree to something.
- Arrr: Honestly, you can stick this one anywhere, including cheesy phrases like "Arrr you going to finish those french fries?"
Best of luck to you, ye land lubbers!
