Racing flag

I went to my first NASCAR event last summer; it was a surreal experience because I expected it to be boring with cars just taking left turns at 200 MPH. However, I was blown away by how enthusiastic the fans were for the drivers they followed, as well as the atmosphere all over the area.

As soon as you come in through the parking lot gates there are massive rows of RV and campers staked out with their tailgating equipment in full swing. I expected people would keep to themselves and families, but during my first five minutes of walking around the tailgating area people would offer me a cold drink and ask what racer I was cheering for. A bit embarrassed, I would tell these kind fans that it was my first experience at NASCAR. As soon as I said that, they jumped up and were so excited to tell them about the sport and what drivers to watch for. I’ve never had this level of enthusiasm and kindness at any sporting even till now.

Every year, one of the most popular events on TicketNetwork.com has been the family-friendly, high-octane, car-crushing Monster Jam Truck series, which hits countless stadiums and arenas across the U.S. annually. This year is no exception.

So far in 2013, Monster Jam has accounted for an incredible 33% of all tickets sold for sports events through TicketNetwork.com. That's more than NBA tickets sold, more than NHL tickets sold, more than MLB tickets sold. It's more than any other sport genre by a landslide. Which raises the question, what makes Monster Jam such a popular pick among our customers? Well, there are a few good reasons actually.

First, the are lots (LOTS) of Monster Jam shows scheduled. Events hosted in 79 different venues have sold through our marketplace, all of varying sizes. Two of the largest venues that will host events this year are Reliant Stadium and Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Those two stadiums, which are normally home to NFL football games, account for 20% of all the Monster Jam tickets sold on TicketNetwork.com in 2013. Many of the venues, both big and small, will be hosting multiple events, with more to be announced.

Second, Monster Jam tickets are selling for a much more affordable price than most other events. The average price per ticket sold through TicketNetwork.com is $44, exactly half of the $88 average price of all other sports event tickets. Plus, tickets for many of the Monster Jam shows, on average, cost far lower than $44, like those available for the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, SC, where tickets averaged just $17. The highest average? MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, home of the New York Giants and Jets, which will host Monster Jam on June 15. So far that show has had an average ticket price of $89.

Another reason why Monster Jam sells so much? Monster Jam is great family event that most people will be entertained by. I mean, who wouldn't like to watch huge monster trucks flying through the air, crushing other cars in its way?

All ticket data is from 2 p.m. on 3/5/2013. Ticket prices are subject to change.

It's Friday again (how time flies!), and with it comes another week of popular stories. Check out our list below:

I'll Have Another

I'll Have Another is the horse who won the Kentucky Derby (at right) as well as the Preakness Stakes, setting him up for a chance to become the first horse since 1978 to win the Triple Crown if he managed to pull out a win at the Belmont Stakes this weekend. But news came this morning that I'll Have Another has been scratched from the Belmont Stakes due to a tendon injury, and a lot of people who don't normally care about horse racing seem to be pretty upset.

America's Got Talent

Many of you have probably seen the "America's Got Talent" audition of Timothy Poe, whose heartwarming story about overcoming a war injury and the resulting stutter to be a great singer was inspiring to everyone. (If you haven't seen it, look right.) But now his story is being questioned, as there is evidence the military photo he used was not his, and there is no record of an injury or a Purple Heart in his service career. If the accusations are true, Poe will have a lot to atone for.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber

When are people not talking about Justin Bieber? Today I found a slideshow of JBiebs' most unusual fashion choices; you can defend them if you're a fan, or make fun of them if you're not. It's a win for everyone!
