Battle Of The Seasons: Why Summer Is The Best

Palm trees in Santa Monica, CA

As the old saying goes, we've saved the best for last, and summer is indeed the best season. People look forward to summer because it has much more to offer than the other seasons. It's always warm, the days are long, and unlike the other seasons, there is no point where it is too cold to do something.

From cookouts to vacations to swimming, summer just provides so many opportunities for things to do. After all, during what other season can you just choose a day and know that it'll probably be a nice one? No other season except summer.

Why Summer Is The Best

Warm Weather. Consider this: the national average temperature of the United States during the two full months of summer — July and August — is 74.29 and 72.77 degrees Fahrenheit. Even the northernmost city with a population of over 20,000, Fairbanks, AK, has an average of 72.7 degrees F. in July. Which other season can claim that it's comfortably warm almost anywhere for at least one month of the season? That's right, only summer can do that.

It's gets even better for cities that are among the contiguous 48 or are Hawaii, because you can be sure that almost any day of the summer is a good day for an activity. Want to barbecue? Great. Go camping? Go for it. Take a trip somewhere? You've picked the right time. There is almost nothing that can't be done during summer. You can even ski if you're willing to take a trip to Oregon. No other season has weather that allows such varied types of activities.

Battle Of The Seasons: Why Spring Is The Best

Spring In The Park

Yes, it's fall. So, let me be the first person to say... I'm sorry that you have to suffer through such a dreadful season only to lead up to an equally bad season (winter). Time to get out the rakes and shovels, fun is over. On the bright side, only six months until the spring.

I sometimes find it hard to believe that people would choose any season other than the spring as the best of them all. Spring is far and away the best season and not just because of all its good qualities, but because of all the shortcomings of the other seasons.

Why Spring Is The Best

Trees And Flowers Are Back From The Dead. The #1 reason that people love the fall is the foliage, which by definition is leaves DYING from off the trees. Maybe if those dead leaves stayed on the trees, but no, hours and hours of raking is inevitable. Give me the spring, when the trees start budding once again with new life. Flowers begin to bloom once again. Any color you could want to see starts showing up again on trees and in gardens. I choose to watch things come back to life, not die and decay, but that could be just me.

Battle Of The Seasons: Why Winter Is The Best

Winter

Why is winter the best season? Well, it isn't. At least we don't think so... in fact, Mike, Tim and I couldn't even find someone on our TN Team who wanted to advocate for winter and talk about why it's the greatest.

What winter means to us: we hardly ever see the sun, we're barricaded in at all times by several feet of snow, we have to shovel and dig our cars out of said snow, we must drive in treacherous weather, and it's frigid outside. Ugh. I'm dreading winter just thinking about it. That's why we're having trouble seeing why anyone in New England would think winter is the best season. So we tried to brainstorm a few reasons. Here's our best shot.

Battle Of The Seasons: Why Fall Is The Best

Fall foliage

It's officially fall... which means it's officially the best time of the year. That's right, I said it. Fall is easily the best season in the New England area. It's so awesome it is frequently referred to by two names because its wonder cannot be contained by just one name.

Why Fall Is The Best

Fall foliage. Jumping in leaf piles, especially as a kid, is the best. Raking leaves may not be fun, but neither is clearing snow off your car or dealing with pollen. Fall is, hands down, the prettiest season. Dreamysigh. Fall foliage is such a big deal that there are entire websites dedicated to mapping out the best times to see the most magnificent colors. (This live map details the peak times to visit.) People travel to New England just for the experience of seeing fall foliage, much like they'd road trip to see the Grand Canyon, because they understand how awesome it is to see the vibrant colors in person. The changing leaves are not representative of death so much as the circle of life — and, since I know how much we all love "The Lion King," we should be pleased that fall is pretty much the epitome of the meaning behind that song. Thanks, fall!
