The nominees for the 54th Grammy Awards were announced last night, and Kanye West, Adele, Bruno Mars, and Foo Fighters got the most out of everybody. Kanye got seven nods and the others got six apiece.

All the headlines say that Kanye is the leader of this year's Grammy nominations, but he's almost always paired with someone else. Yet, the works cited are from albums that were very much led by him, so the claims are mostly accurate.

Also, I was surprised that Skrillex got a nod for Best New Artist. Okay, maybe it's not so surprising when he's the biggest name in the fastest growing genre of the year, but not even deadmau5 got this honor when he was new. I guess dubstep really has finally arrived (though not uncontroversially). Whether Skrillex can pull off a win is another matter completely. I tend to think not.

Below is the list of nominees for the big four categories.

  • Adele - "Rolling in the Deep"
  • Bon Iver - "Holocene"
  • Bruno Mars - "Grenade"
