I know you all look forward to our Friday editions of "What People Are Talking About This Week," but this week there were enough sports highlights that I decided to make a special Thursday edition.

R.A. Dickey gets yelled at

One of the best pitchers of the season (let's go Mets!), R.A. Dickey has been wearing friendship bracelets that his daughters made for him before he embarked on a trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in January. For some reason, in last night's game an umpire decided that it was a violation of the uniform code and made him CUT THEM OFF on live television. His poor girls.

Felix Hernandez pitches a perfect game

My other (possibly now former) team, the Mariners, had an exciting day yesterday as well. Felix Hernandez became the 23rd player in major league history to pitch a perfect game and the third player to do so this season, a major league season record.

U.S. soccer team beats Mexico for the first time in Mexico

That's right: after a 75-year rivalry and 24 matches, the US finally managed to eke out a win over Mexico on their turf. Incidentally, Mexico just won the Olympic gold medal, though with an entirely different squad.
