Hurricane Sandy is projected to hit the New Jersey-New York metro area with very high winds and heavy precipitation between tonight and tomorrow. We can expect cancellations and postponements of events from a number of performers and productions in the area. Here are some of the ones we know about.
Keep in mind that this is by no means an exhaustive list. If you are planning to attend any kind of event in the New Jersey-New York-Southern Connecticut-Boston area on Sunday or Monday, then check the website for the event, other outreach sources like Twitter and Facebook, and local media for news. Virtually all public transportation in the New York City/New Jersey metro area is shut down until further notice, so other events not listed here may also be postponed or cancelled.
According to Playbill, all Broadway productions have been cancelled for the evenings of October 28 and 29. In addition, the following Off-Broadway shows have been cancelled for tonight: Avenue Q, Bad Jews, Closer Than Ever, Disgraced, The Exonerated, Forbidden Broadway, Fuerza Bruta, Golden Child, Silence the Musical, and Stomp (no word on the Tuesday Pittsburgh performance of Stomp).
Off-Broadway shows currently cancelled for October 29 include Avenue Q, Disgraced, Don't Go Gentle and The Good Mother.
Update 10/30: All Broadway shows are cancelled for tonight, according to The Broadway League. Off-Broadway shows are cancelled at The Signature Theatre, The Public Theater and Lincoln Center Theater. Also cancelled are Avenue Q, Closer Than Ever, The Good Mother, Old Jews Telling Jokes, Siren's Heart: The Marilyn Monroe Musical, United Solo Theatre Festival and A Wound in Time, according to Playbill.
According to The Hippodrome Theater at the France-Merrick PAC Facebook page, the October 30 performance of Wicked in Baltimore, MD, is cancelled. Tickets will be honored at the Wednesday and Thursday showings.
Update 10/31: Most Broadway shows will be back up and running today, except the following: Evita (matinee performance), Jersey Boys (matinee performance), The Lion King (evening performance), Mary Poppins (evening performance), Scandalous (matinee performance). Many Off-Broadway shows will also re-open today.
Update 11/1: All Broadway shows are running on a normal schedule. The Off-Broadway League has posted a list of shows cancelled for tonight.
Concerts and Comedians
Louis C.K. - Comedian Louis C.K. has announced that his shows originally scheduled for October 28 at New York City Center will be postponed until March 2. Tickets held for Sunday's shows will be honored on the new date.
The xx - British Indie band The XX have on announced on Facebook postponements for their upcoming shows in The Bronx (October 28), Philadelphia (29th), and Baltimore (30th). The Philadelphia show has been rescheduled to January 27 and the Baltimore show to January 28.
Brandi Carlile - According to Broadway World, singer Brandi Carlile has postponed Sunday and Monday's Beacon Theatre shows. More information on the rescheduled dates is forthcoming.
Joshua Radin has announced on Twitter that his New York show for Monday, October 29 is postponed until November 4, and his Tuesday, October 30 show in Philadelphia is cancelled. All other shows proceeding as scheduled.
Rusko's performance at PachaNYC has been postponed until December 30, according to the venue's Twitter feed. His shows in Philadelphia on October 29 and in Sayreville, New Jersey on October 30 have also been postponed, according to his Facebook page.
Social Distortion - According to their Facebook page, the Social Distortion concert scheduled October 28 in Poughkeepsie, NY, has been cancelled. No word yet on Monday's show in Boston, MA.
Idina Menzel - Menzel announced on her website that she is postponing her October 29 concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City to November 4.
Aimee Mann - Mann announced on Twitter that her October 29 concert at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City is postponed to next week. She will be playing at the Williamsburg Music Hall in Brooklyn on October 31, and tickets for the Bowery show will be also be accepted there. .
Journey - Journey announced on its website that its October 29 concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is cancelled.
Fun. - According to their Facebook page, Fun. has postponed their October 30 concert at New York City's Irving Plaza to November 7.
Bruce Springsteen - According to his website, Bruce Springsteen has postponed his October 30 Rochester, NY, concert to October 31.
Rufus Wainwright - According to their Twitter account, Wainwright's Freedom To Love Now concert with The National has been postponed to a later date to be determined.
Pierce the Veil - Pierce the Veil has postponed their October 30 concert in Philadelphia, PA, to November 5, according to their website. Their November 1 show is still on.
Misfits - Misfits have rescheduled their October 30 concert in New Britain, CT, to a to be determined date in December, according to their Twitter page. No word yet on their October 31 concert in New York City.
Reckless Kelly - According to their Twitter account, Reckless Kelly's 10/31 concert at New York City's Bowery Ballroom has been postponed to a later date. Their 11/1 Baltimore, MD, concert is still proceeding as scheduled.
Legends in Concert - Atlantic City - According to venue Bally's Atlantic City's website, the hotel is shut down until it is safe to reopen. If you are attending a Legends in Concert show, it will also likely be shut down until things are back up and running.
Bruce Hornsby - Bruce Hornsby's November 1 show in Collingsworth, NJ, is postponed until a later date, according to his website.
GroupLove - According to their Facebook page, GroupLove's October 30 Washington, D.C. concert is postponed until a later date.
Pretty Lights - According to their Twitter page, Pretts Lights' October 30 Penn State University concert is postponed to a later date. The October 31 Boston show is still on.
Xavier Rudd - According to his Twitter page, Xavier Rudd's October 30 Washington, D.C. concert is postponed to October 31.
Smashing Pumpkins - According to a press release, the Smashing Pumpkins have postponed all of their east coast tour dates. The October 31 Brooklyn show and the November 4 Uncasville, CT, show have been postponed until further notice. The Camden, NJ, show has been postponed until December 8 and the Fairfax, VA, show has been postponed until December 9.
Social Distortion - According to their website, Social Distortion have cancelled their November 1 and 2 concerts at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ.
Jim Breuer - While Jim Breuer has not yet made any official announcements on the status of his November 2 show in Atlantic City, as of October 31 the Borgata Hotel and Casino remains closed, according to their Facebook page. Keep an eye on the page, and Breuer's page, for updates.
Ed Kowalczyk - Singer Ed Kowalczyk's November 2 show at the Bergen PAC in Englewood, NJ, is postponed due to Sandy-related travel difficulties, according to the venue's Facebook page.
Kansas - Kansas' November 3 show at the Bergen PAC in Englewood, NJ, is postponed due to Sandy-related travel difficulties, according to the venue's Facebook page.
Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers - According to Martin's Twitter account, their shows in Red Bank, NJ, on November 1, Atlantic City on November 2, and Easton, PA, on November 3 are cancelled.
Gary Allan - According to his website, the November 2 concert at the House of Blues in Atlantic City and November 3 show in Salamanca, NY, are on. However, the November 4 show in Westbury, NY, has been cancelled. We recommend keeping a close eye on the status of the House of Blues show. As other attendees have noted, many (if not most) hotels in the city are shut down, making it difficult for people going to see the show to get lodging.
Matisyahu - According to his website, Matisyahu's November 3 concert at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ in cancelled.
Trey Anastasio Band, George Lopez, Red Ribbon Foundation Gala, Little Feat & Leon Russell, Meat Loaf - According to The Capitol Theatre's website, Anastasio's, the Gala's, Little Feat and Russell's, and Meat Loaf's concerts on November 5, 3, 4, and 7, respectively, have been postponed to a later date. Lopez's November 2 show has been postponed until February 22, 2013. Meat Loaf has also cancelled concerts in New York City on November 1, Albany on November 3 and Ithaca on November 5.
Boyz II Men - According to the venue's website, the Boyz II Men concert scheduled for November 3 has been postponed to a later date.
Woodkid - According to his Facebook page, Woodkid has cancelled his concerts in New York City (Nov. 1), San Francisco (Nov. 2), and Los Angeles (Nov. 3), due to Sandy-related travel difficulties.
Jeff Garlin - Jeff Garlin's shows in Boston on November 1; Mashantucket, CT, on November 2; and Atlantic City on November 3 are cancelled. They will be rescheduled for later dates.
Wisin y Yandel - According to their Twitter account, Wisin y Yandel have postponed their November 1 New York City show until January 18, 2013.
Freelance Whales - According to their Facebook page, Freelance whales has postponed their November 1 concert in New York City.
Donavon Frankenreiter - According to his website, Donavon Frankenreiter's show on November 1 at NYC's Bowery Ballroom is cancelled. However, he will be playing at the the Music Hall of Williamsburg as part of JD McPherson's show.
Further Seems Forever - According to their Twitter account, Further Meet's Forever's shows on November 1 in Philadelphia; November 2 in New York City; and November 3 in Batimore, are cancelled due to travel difficulties. The dates will be rescheduled.
Sónar - According to its website, the Sónar show on November 2 in New York City is cancelled.
Roger Hodgson - According to his Facebook page, Roger Hodgson will be postponing his November 1 concert in Philadelphia to November 14. His November 2 concert in Westbury, NY, and November 3 show in Ridgefield, CT, are postponed until a later date.
Daddy Yankee - Daddy Yankee's show at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, CT, has been postponed until December 7, according to his website.
Chris Isaak - According to his website, Chris Isaak has postponed his November 2 concert to November 17.
