For a second month, the Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus is at the top of the list. If you're not keeping track, the last time this happened was with Monster Jam Trucks in January and February. Before that it was with Taylor Swift in November and December.
Ringling Bros. in doing very well indeed thanks to plenty of affordable tickets, and its heyday might not be over. For the first time since I started reporting all of the Top 10 events for August 2012, it seems very possible that a non-concert, sport, or theater event will claim the top spot a third time in a row. It's not a guarantee, just a possibility. However, I think there's some evidence for it. There are a couple reasons it could happen:
- Ringling Bros. is already in the top spot (just barely). It's challenged by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but sales for TSO could potentially slow down after initial onsales are complete. Last year TSO made the list in September, but didn't get near the top until November.
- Other than TSO, there is no other strong contender. Luke Bryan's tour ends in October, so sales will naturally slow down as that wraps up. The same is true of Jason Aldean, who came in a distant third this month.
Ultimately, only time will tell, so come back next month for the results!
