Ok, Enough With The Pumpkin Flavored Products Already!

For as long as anyone can remember, pumpkin pie has been synonymous with the fall season and staple come Thanksgiving; but that used to be where pumpkin as a flavor ended. In recent years however, that has all changed. Coffee and beer were the two products that adopted the pumpkin or pumpkin spice flavors, both of which turned out to be extremely popular.

I must admit, I am no fan of the fall season, but I couldn't wait to get my hands on pumpkin flavored coffee. I'm afraid though, that pumpkin flavored products have already jumped the shark.

jump the shark - reach a point at which something is included merely for the sake of novelty, indicative of a decline in quality.

Like I said, I love pumpkin flavored coffee. I love pumpkin pie. But I think I reached the point of knowing the the pumpkin phenomenon had reached its tipping point when I saw pumpkin pie Pop Tarts on the store shelf. There is no way that a pumpkin pie Pop Tart actually tastes very good. It actually sounds awful. There are dozens of new products on the shelves in the past couple years, I tried to compile a list of some of them:

• Coffee (Multiple Brands) • Beer (Multiple Brands)
• Kellogg's Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts • McDonald's Individual Pumpkin Pies
• Philadelphia Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese • Pumpkin Ice Cream (Multiple Brands)
• Liquor (Multiple Brands) • Hershey's Pumpkin Kisses
• Betty Crocker Pumpkin Spice Cookies • Jet-Puffed Pumpkin SpiceMallows
• Jell-O Pumpkin Spice Instant Pudding Mix • Pumpkin Pie Yogurt
• Pumpkin Eggnog • Dairy Queen Pumpkin Pie Blizzard
• Eggo Waffles • Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamers
• Pumpkin Pie Filled Donuts

What was once something that was special to the season, has now become overkill. It's sad because the special time when you have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving has now lost a little bit of its luster. All because you have been gorging yourself with pumpkin pie filled donuts and pumpkin waffles covered with pumpkin cream cheese, while washing it down with pumpkin coffee spiked with a little pumpkin spice vodka. Enough already!

It should be noted that I wrote this while enjoying nice pumpkin ice coffee... i'm such a lemming.
