Brad Paisley was born October 28, 1972 in the tiny Ohio River town of Glen Dale, West Virginia. Paisley's love of country music began at age eight, when his maternal grandfather gave him his first guitar - a Sears Danelectro Silvertone - and taught him how to play. By the age of ten Brad Paisley was playing well enough to accompany himself, and by age twelve he wrote his first song, titled 'Born on Christmas Day,' and formed his first band, called Brad Paisley & the C-Notes. By age thirteen, Brad Paisley was an opening act for country singers such as Ricky Skaggs and George Jones.
The debut of Brad Paisley as a singer occurred when Tom Miller, program director of Wheeling's country music station WWVA, invited Paisley to perform on the legendary Saturday night show Jamboree USA. His performance was so successful that he an invitation to become a Jamboree regular. During his run on the program, Brad Paisley opened for such country luminaries as Roy Clark, Jack Greene, and Little Jimmy Dickens.
After completing high school, Brad Paisley began studying at West Liberty College. He soon transferred to Belmont University in Nashville, where he was awarded a full-paid ASCAP scholarship. In college, Brad Paisley met Frank Rogers, who would serve as his producer, and Kelley Lovelace, who would become his songwriting partner. Just one week after graduation, Brad Paisley signed to the label Arista Nashville with the album Who Needs Pictures, which was released on February 22, 1999. Later that same year, he released his first number one hit, 'He Didn't Have to Be.'
Who Needs Pictures and the second album from Brad Paisley, Part II (2001), reached platinum status, while his next two albums, Mud on the Tires (2003) and Time Well Wasted (2005) both achieved double platinum. Time Well Wasted was also crowned Album of the Year by the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. Brad Paisley's latest album, 5th Gear (2007), is an analogy for where Paisley is in his career: he says he and his band are running at top speed and firing on all pistons, and he has honed his songwriting and his guitar-playing ability to where he is not afraid to push forward a little further.
