The Cleveland Browns first took the field in 1946 as part of the All-America Football Conference. Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach was hired to lead the team as the vice president, general manager and head coach not long after. The Cleveland Browns immediately began to dominate the rest of the AAFL winning the league title in 1946, 1947, 1948 and 1949. Their success ultimately proved to be costly as the teams winning ways contributed to the AAFL dissolving following the 1949 season. That opened the door for the Cleveland Browns to join the powerful National Football League in 1950.
Picking up where they left off, the Cleveland Browns immediately began dominating their new league. Going 10-2 in the regular season, the Cleveland Browns made quick work in the playoffs that year defeating the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams to win the NFL Championship in their first year in the league. They continued that success over the next decade and a half winning titles in 1954, 1955 and 1964.
Although the Cleveland Browns haven't won a title since, their fans have always been among the most loyal. But in 1995, fans were devastated to learn that then owner Art Modell agreed to move the team to Baltimore, where they would become the Baltimore Ravens. Despite protests and lawsuits, the Cleveland Browns left the Cleveland following the 1995 season. It wasn't long before the NFL realized that football needed a team in C-Town, and awarded them an expansion team in 1998. The Cleveland Browns were born again, and have been trying to rebuild that winning tradition ever since.
