About Arthur Miller's All My Sons

In 1915, Arthur Miller was born in New York City. Growing up during the Great Depression, Arthur Miller saw his father lose his money and face financial disaster. As a young man, Arthur Miller worked in a warehouse to put himself through college at the University of Michigan. After graduating in 1938, he began writing plays such as All My Sons. His work was successful, and his plays are still studied and produced today.

Arthur Miller's early plays were mostly flops, but he decided to give himself one last chance with All My Sons; if the play did not succeed, he would find a different career. It took Arthur Miller five years to write All My Sons, which opened in 1947. As it turned out, the play was a hit and enjoyed a long run of 328 shows. After All My Sons, Arthur Miller had the confidence to write other famous plays such as his next project, Death of a Salesman. All My Sons was Arthur Miller's first successful play.

After writing All My Sons, Arthur Miller had an eventful life. He married Marilyn Monroe in 1956. That same year, he was subpoenaed to talk to the House Committee on Un-American Activities. The Committee had real power to ruin people's lives, but Arthur Miller refused to give evidence against others. Many people admire Arthur Miller's courage after hearing this story. His play The Crucible was inspired by the McCarthy era "witch hunts" for anyone that might possibly be a Communist, whether they were innocent or not. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller tries to show that tolerance and freedom must overcome hysteria and mass fear.

Many people think that Arthur Miller was one of the greatest American playwrights. His works are still produced and appreciated. Arthur Miller plays include The Crucible, Death of a Salesman, and All My Sons. His first successful show, All My Sons won the New York Drama Critics Circle award. This was only the start of Arthur Miller's career, and he went on to write many other plays, essays, and stories. In 1949, he won the Pulitzer Prize for Death of a Salesman, a tragedy about an ordinary man. And over the years, many students have read The Crucible, his play about the Salem witchcraft trials, in English and literature classes. In addition, All My Sons was one of Arthur Miller's most successful plays. This is your chance to see All My Sons with discount All My Sons tickets!
