Ani DiFranco - Resources

About Ani DiFranco

Ani DiFranco was born on September 23, 1970, in Buffalo, New York. At the young age of nine years old, she was already playing Beatles cover songs and performing with her guitar teacher. As DiFranco moved through her teen years, she continued to play music and in 1989 she established her own record label, "Righteous Babe Records." To this day she continues to release albums under that label, including her first album, the self titled Ani DiFranco. Since then she has released nearly twenty more studio albums.

Along with her powerful and influential music, DiFranco has also taken home her share of accolades. On July 21, 2006, she received the "Woman of Courage Award" at that year's National Organization for Woman conference. The award is given to a woman who has set herself apart in her contributions to the feminist movement. She was nominated four consecutive years for the Grammy Award for Best Recording Package, from 2004 to 2007. She took home the Grammy in 2004 for her work on the album Evolve.
