Along with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the youngest franchises in Major League Baseball, only joining the league in 1998 as an expansion team. From their inception through the present, the D'backs have played at Chase Field, which is formerly known as Bank One Ballpark. The stadium is often referred to as "The BOB," thanks to the initials of its former name, and is unique from other ballparks across baseball because of its pool just over its centerfield wall.
In the franchises brief existence, Diamondback fans have had the priviledge of watching plenty of winning teams. The team has won five National League West titles to date, most recently in 2011. Of those successes, the most memorable for the people of Arizona came in 2001. Behind ace pitchers Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling, the Diamondbacks captured not only the division title, but were also able to win the National League Championship and eventually went on to defeat the vaunted New York Yankees in seven games to win the franchises one and only World Series title.
The team now relies on a younger roster of players to carry them this season including Paul Goldschimdt, Miguel Montero and the recently acquired Martin Prado. They will have their work cut out for them in 2013 in the highly competative NL West which features the defending champion San Francisco Giants and the newly revamped Los Angeles Dodgers.
