Avril Lavigne first caught the worlds attention in 2002 with her debut album Let Go. She near instantly became a worldwide success, selling more albums than any other female artist that year. At the young age 17 Avril Lavigne was already selling millions of albums and selling out tickets to see her perform her infused style of punk and pop. The Canadian songstress was born on September 27, 1984 in Ontario. She began perfected her musical skills while taking part in church choirs and local festivals. At the age of 16 she was discovered by a representative of Arista Records, who the signed Avril Lavigne to the label. She moved to Manhattan and quickly began work on her debut album. Let Go was released in 2002 and reached #2 on the Billboard US Chart and #1 in Canada, UK, and Australia. The album included the singles 'Complicated', 'Sk8ter Boi' and 'I'm With You' each of which reached #1 on the US Pop chart. Let Go was certified six times platinum with worldwide sales of over 16 million.

Avril Lavigne followed up her debut album with two albums that both managed to reach #1 on the charts. Under My Skin was released in 2004 and The Best Damn Thing in 2007. Her commercial success was complimented by her success during the award season. Avril Lavigne has been nominated for a total of eight Grammy Awards, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year and Best New Artist. She has also won multiple awards from the World Music Awards for Best Pop/Rock Artist, Best Canadian Artist and World's Best Selling Pop/Rock Female Artist, among others.
