About Ben Folds

In 1966, pianist Ben Folds was born in Winston-Salem, NC. His first band was called Majosha, and in 1994 he formed the trio Ben Folds Five with Robert Sledge and Darren Jessee. A college band, Ben Folds Five released their debut album, Ben Folds Five, in 1995. According to, Ben Folds Five resembled "such piano-driven artists as Billy Joel and early Elton John. But like punk bands, Ben Folds Five put on a high-energy, blistering live show." Today Ben Folds works on a solo pop music career.

One of the top Ben Folds Five songs was "Brick," a 1997 single from Whatever and Ever Amen. The last Ben Folds Five album, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, was streamed live online at Myspace. People enjoyed Ben Folds Five lyrics, but Ben Folds Five disbanded in 2000. Ben Folds decided to begin a solo career, and Ben Folds tour tickets sold quickly. The Ben Folds songs "The Luckiest" from Rockin' the Suburbs and Ben Folds' "Landed" from Songs for Silverman appealed to fans.

Along with artists such as Ben Kweller and Guster, Ben Folds attracts a loyal cult following with his piano pounding style and funny song lyrics. In 2008, Ben Folds released Way to Normal.
