About Beyonce

Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born in Houston, Texas, on September 18, 1981. She is the daughter of record manager Mathew Knowles and costume designer Tina Beyincé Knowles. Beyonce began performing from a young age and won her first competition, a talent show, at the age of seven, according to All Music Guide. Two years later, she was auditioning for a position in a girl group and was eventually selected as one of six girls to be part of Girl's Tyme. After performing on Star Search, the group went through several line up and name changes, eventually settling on Knowles, her cousin Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson. This quartet formed the first iteration of Destiny's Child. From 1998 to their final breakup in 2005, the group released four studio albums. Three of the records were top five sellers and included the chart topping studio album Survivor and compilation album #1's. In all, the group has sales of over 50 million records worldwide, according to BBC News, making them one of the best selling female groups of all time.

Destiny's Child went on hiatus in 2000 to embark on solo careers and in 2003 Beyonce released her first album, Dangerously in Love. The album became a smash hit for Beyonce, taking the top spot on the Billboard 200, becoming certified 4x platinum, and winning the singer five Grammys at the 2004 awards. She briefly reunited with her fellow Destiny's Child members in 2004 to record the group's final album, Destiny Fulfilled, which peaked at number two and has sold over six million copies worldwide. They also released #1's in 2005, which itself reached number one. After Destiny's Child finally disbanded, Beyonce released B'Day in 2006 to a number one ranking and six million worldwide sales. In 2008, she released her third album I Am... Sasha Fierce, where she introduced Sasha Fierce, the alter-ego which appears on stage, according to an interview with The Telegraph.

Beyonce has expanded her career to other avenues. One of these is acting, and she has appeared in eight films, with leading roles in five. The roles include Carmen in Carmen: A Hop Hopera, Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember, Lilly in The Fighting Temptations, Deena Jones in Dreamgirls, and Sharon Charles in Obsessed. She has won over 75 awards, according to Wikipedia, including seven Grammy awards, four BET awards, six Billboard Music awards, and six Soul Train Music awards. She also won 150 awards as part of Destiny's Child. Beyonce is married to hip-hop artist Jay-Z.
