It started as a 1998 novel written by Daniel Wallace called “Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions.” In 2003, the novel was turned into a movie starring Ewan McGregor, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lang, Helena Bonham Carter, and Albert Finney. Tim Burton directed. The critically acclaimed film comes to life on stage in a musical directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, a book by John August, and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. Academy Award winners Bruce Cohen and Dan Jinks produce the show.
Set in Southern U.S., Big Fish follows Edward Bloom, a man of many stories. Edward is charismatic, charming, and a storyteller of mythic (and not-always-believable) proportions — much to the disdain of his grown son, Will. As Edward’s health begins to fail, Will is obsessed with finding out which of his father’s stories are true, and who Edward really is. A story with heart, humor, inspiration, and love, Big Fish tickets can ignite the dreamer in us all.
