The curse was lifted in the next series as the Sox overmatched the St. Louis Cardinals sweeping them to win the World Series for the first time in 86 years.

In 2007, the Boston Red Sox once again were able to have a dominant year winning the American League East crown for the first time in 12 years. Behind 20-game-winner Josh Beckett, the team carved their way through the playoffs defeating the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Cleveland Indians, and eventually the Colorado Rockies to take the 2007 World Series, their second title in four years.
