About Carlos Mencia

Carlos Mencia takes no prisoners with his form of comedy, poking fun at everything from religion to race. He currently has his own show Mind of Mencia that airs on Comedy Central and is mix of sketch and stand up comedy. The show has proven to be a success receiving high ratings for the comic. Even with the success of his television, Carlos Mencia remains one of the most popular touring comedy concerts around. Born Ned Arnel Mencia on October 22, 1967 in Honduras, where he was the 17th of 18 children. When he was less then one year old, he moved to East Los Angeles and was raised by his aunt and uncle. He managed to stay out of trouble over his childhood and young adulthood, and ended up excelling enough to attend California State College. He majored in electrical engineering, but he left school in 1989 only one credit shy of graduating to pursue a career in comedy. Carlos Mencia began performing at Los Angeles' Comedy Store where he was met with laughter and success. His routine landed him spots performing on late night television shows where he began to gain a following. In 1994, he received his big break when he was selected by HBO to host Loco Slam, a show that featured a line up of Latino Comics.

Debuting in 2005, Mind of Mencia gave Carlos Mencia an open forum to discuss political, racial and cultural issues with a comedic twist. The show incorporates Carlos Mencia's stand up comedy with skits that poke fun at current events. Some reoccurring characters that find their way back on the show include Judge Carlos, Carlosaurus Rex and Punji. The show has not gone unrecognized in the comedy world seeing guest appearances by comic heavyweights Robin Williams, Tracy Morgan and Cheech Marin.
