The history of the Chicago Cubs baseball team is filled with ups and downs, as well as iconic figures on and off the field, all while residing in one of the most recognizable ballparks in baseball. It is no secret that the Cubs are known for their futility when it comes to winning world championships, having not won one since 1908, but you wouldn't know it by looking at their fans. Chicago Cubs tickets sell out for nearly every game, filling every seat at Wrigley Field to cheer on their Cubbies!

The franchise history dates back to 1876, but it wouldn't be for another 25 years that they would become known as the Chicago Cubs. The Chicago Daily News was the first to pen the name Cubs, but in the prior years the team was known as the White Stockings, Colts and Orphans. At the turn of the century, the Cubs were among the league's elite teams. In 1907 they claimed their first World Series title, defeating the Detroit Tigers in six games, only to repeat that feat again in 1908, once again knocking out the Tigers.

Over the remainder of the 1900's, the Cubs became known as the tough luck team. Whether it was blamed on management, players or the "Curse of the Billy Goat," the team has remained without a title since 1908. But in that same period of time, the Cubs and the city of Chicago have begun a love affair unmatched by almost any other city. Nearly every game, Chicagoans fill the friendly confines of Wrigley Field, the second oldest stadium only behind Boston's Fenway Park. During the seventh inning stretch of every home game, fans join together to root, root, root for the Cubbies, singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," a tradition started by legendary announcer Harry Caray, who is now immortalized by a statue that was erected outside of the stadium in his honor.

The team recently hired Theo Epstein as their new President of Baseball Operations, a man who helped orchestrate two World Series titles with the Red Sox. He brings a new-found level of expectations for the Cubs and their fans.

As the Cubbies look to win their first title in more than a century, TicketNetwork.com can help connect you to Cubs tickets to catch them at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.
