The Chicago White Sox, or White Stockings as they were originally known, took the field as an American League team for the first time on April 22, 1901. The game was the first "official" American League game in history, a game in which the Chicago White Sox defeated the Cleveland franchise 8-2. It did not take long for the Chicago White Sox to get into championship form, when in 1906 they captured the World Series title over their cross-town rival Chicago Cubs. Bullying their way through the regular season behind fiery manager Ozzie Guillen, the Chicago White Sox easily went through the playoffs only losing one game on the way to the title.
