Cleveland Cavaliers Schedule

Is there a more electrifying athlete on the planet than LeBron James? To any sports fan, not just Cavalier fans, it is obvious there is no one more exciting to watch on the basketball court than LeBron. LeBron almost single handedly defeated the Warriors in the NBA Finals in 2015. In 2016, along with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving the King pulled off the improbable. The Cavaliers stormed back from a 3-1 series defecit to win the NBA title James wanted so much for his city.

The Cleveland Cavaliers became an NBA franchise as an expansion team in 1970, playing their games at the Cleveland Arena. The team did not have success in its early years but gradually improved, culminating with a Central Division Title in 1976. Cavs ownership changed hands frequently over the next 30 years until Dan Gilbert acquired the team in 2005. Before the Dan Gilbert/LeBron James era the Cavaliers were a perennial lottery team, ending the 2002-03 season with a 17-65 record, the worst in franchise history. This allowed the team to win the first pick in the NBA draft, which they used to select LeBron James. There was little doubt the LeBron would make an impact on the NBA, but the impact he would have on sales of Cleveland Cavaliers tickets would not be appreciated for years.

During his first time around in Cleveland, LeBron James was carrying the team practically on his own, yet still dominating the Eastern Conference. Cavalier's owner Dan Gilbert recognized the need to bring in help for NBA MVP LeBron James. He signed Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Mo Williams and Shaquille O’Neal in the first 3 years of his ownership. This team found playoff success, upsetting the Detroit Pistons in 2007 to win the Eastern Conference Finals. In 2010, after the highly public departure of LeBron James, who decided to take his talents to South Beach and the Miami Heat, the Cavs struggled to a record of 19-63, once again leading to them acquiring the first pick in the NBA draft. In the 2011 NBA draft the Cavaliers selected point guard Kyrie Irving with the first pick, a player who ended up winning Rookie of the Year. The Cavs continued to struggle and again received the #1 pick in the draft in 2014, selecting Andrew Wiggins out of Kansas.

During the summer of 2014, LeBron James made the decision to return to his native Cleveland and once again play for the Cavs, and sales of Cavaliers tickets once again went through the roof. After this announcement the Cavs traded their #1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins for three time all-star Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Back wearing the classic Wine & Gold Cavalier colors LeBron returned to his native Cleveland once again. The franchise has made the finals in his two seasons since returning, winning one of them.

With loads of pressure and scrutiny off of the shoulders of James, the Cleveland Cavaliers are now playing a much more relaxed game of basketball. The goal is still to win a title, but with LeBron James delivering on his promise to win a title for Cleveland, the game has become much easier again.
