• The Cleveland Indians currently hold the Major League Baseball record for consecutive sell outs at Progressive Field (formally Jacobs Field) when from June 12, 1995 to April 4, 2001 they sold out 455 straight games. The number 455 is retired by the Cleveland Indians in 2001.
• The Cleveland Indians were very influential in the integrating of baseball signing only the second African American player in Larry Doby only eleven weeks after Jackie Robinson signed with Dodgers. The Cleveland Indians also signed legendary Negro League pitcher Satchel Paige in 1948, Paige was 42 at the time.
• In the movie Major League, a fictional Cleveland Indians team was depicted as a last place team that climbed from the cellar only to win the pennant.
