The CMA Music Festival was founded in 1972 as Fan Fair. The Nashville-based festival was launched in response to the flood of fans attending a Nashville DJ convention, hoping to get autographs from their favorite artists. The new event caught on quickly with country music fans, and Fan Fair's attendence doubled by its second year. Today over 190,000 people buy CMA Fest tickets every year. Past attendees of the event include Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, and Martina McBride.
Beginning in 2001, Fan Fair become a four-day event, and in 2004 its owner, the Country Music Association, changed the branding to the CMA Music Festival. Every year the festival includes concerts, autograph booths, and other activities.
