Darius Rucker Biography

Darius Rucker is a country artist who was born on May 13, 1966 in Charleston, SC. Growing up, Darius Rucker lived in a three-bedroom house with his mother, two aunts, grandmother and 14 siblings and cousins. His childhood dream was always to become a professional singer.

While in college at the University of South Carolina, Darius Rucker met future Hootie & the Blowfish bandmates. After a period of playing cover music, Hootie & the Blowfish independently released demo EPs in 1991, 1992, and 1993. Some tracks from their 1993 EP, Kootchypop were rereleased on later albums.

After signing with Atlantic Records, Hootie & the Blowfish released their debut studio album, Cracked Rear View in 1994. The album was an instant success, becoming the highest-selling album of 1995 and going platinum 16 times in the United States. The band went on to release five studio albums, before going on hiatus in 2008.

While still making music with Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker launched his solo career in 2001, when he recorded the R&B album, Back to Then. Knowing he eventually wanted to make country music, Darius Rucker signed to Capitol Records Nashville in 2008. Since then, Darius Rucker has released five country albums, most recently Southern Style in 2015. Darius Rucker usually spends the summer months touring for fans across the country.
