Daughtry was formed in 2006 by American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry following his elimination from the competition. After holding auditions, Daughtry picked four members for the band: guitarist Jeremy Brady, lead guitarist Josh Steely, bassist Josh Paul, and drummer Joey Barnes. Brady later left the band and was replaced with Brian Craddock. Daughtry has written songs with artists from several bands, such as Brad Arnold from 3 Doors Down, Rob Thomas from Matchbox Twenty, and Chad Kroeger from Nickelback.
The band's first album, Daughtry, was released on November 21, 2006. Although it was released to mixed reviews from critics, it reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA. The band has spun off six singles from the album, including top ten hits "It's Not Over," (#4) "Home," (#5) and "What I Want." (#6) A deluxe version of the album will be released in September. It will include the original CD, acoustic versions of "What About Now," "It's Not Over," and "Home." as well as a cover of Foreigner's "Feels Like the First Time," and all five current music videos.
Daughtry was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 2008, including "Best Rock Album," "Best Rock Song," "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal," and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal." The band has continuously toured since January 2007, performing with or opening for many bands, including Nickelback. The band's next album will be released in Spring 2009.
