The Detroit Red Wings are a professional ice hockey team and one of thirty teams that comprise the National Hockey League. The franchise has a long and storied history of winning. They have won more Stanley Cup championships (11) than any NHL franchise based in the United States and are third overall in total NHL championships, behind the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13). Because of the Red Wings' incredible popularity and skill on the ice, Red Wings hockey tickets are incredibly popular among ice hockey fans. Detroit Red Wings tickets will be hard to find as hockey season approaches! Even preseason Red Wings tickets sell out fast. So don't miss your chance to see hockey at its best, and get your NHL tickets at TicketNetwork.
The franchise got its start in 1925 as the Detroit Cougars. Later, in 1930, they were renamed as the Falcons. James E. Norris took ownership of the Falcons after 1932, and he renamed the team the Red Wings and reinvented the logo to honor Detroit (the "Motor City"). The name and the logo stuck, and they have represented the Detroit NHL team ever since.
It wasn't long after they made the name change that the franchise began to ascend to the top of the league. In 1934 they made the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time, and they won their first Stanley Cup in 1936, defeating Toronto in four games.
Like any other team in the NHL, the Red Wings have experienced rough patches in their team history, in addition to changes in owners and the addition of new players. The team has experienced their golden era between 1994 and the present, experiencing great game play, fantastic hockey ticket sales, and Stanley Cup wins. There is a tradition among Red Wings fans and players called "The Legend of the Octopus," where during home playoff games at Joe Louis Arena, an octopus is thrown onto the ice for good luck. The fans in Detroit take this tradition very seriously, going to extreme lengths to sneak octopuses into Joe Louis Arena and throw them onto the ice.
