Originally from Birmingham, England, the Editors have become one of the most popular indie rock bands in Europe. As the band grew and sold more records, they began to see their fan base grow and cross the Atlantic Ocean into the United States. Part of the Editors' success is their ability to play amazing live shows across Europe and the U.S. If you are a fan of bands like Interpol, Franz Ferdinand and The Chameleons, then the Editors are a band that you should get to know.
The Editors are comprised of four members: singer/guitarist Tom Smith, lead guitarist Chris Urbanowicz, bassist Russell Leetch and drummer Ed Lay. The four met while they were attending Staffordshire University, all studying music technology. While they were still an unsigned band, they went by names like The Pride and Snowfield. It wasn't until they signed their first record deal that they became known as the Editors.
Their first single, Bullets, was released in early 2005 and received great commercial success. After the release of their second single, Munich, the band became immensely popular among fans and the UK music press. The praise they received increased the anticipation for their debut album, The Back Room. The album reached number 2 on UK charts and earned the Editors a nomination for the Mercury Prize (an annual music prize that is awarded for best album in the UK or Ireland). They followed that success with the release of their second album, An End Has a Start in 2007, which included the single Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors. The album's rather dark themes deal with death and personal issues the band had recently encountered. They released their third album In This Light and on This Evening in 2009, and their fourth, The Weight of Your Love, in 2013.
