Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in London, England on March 25, 1947. He has always had incredible talent in music, taking piano lessons at the age of seven and turned those lessons into a scholarship to Royal Academy of Music four years later. Over the next few years, Elton John honed his skills as a pianist as well as lyricist, and in 1967 responded to an ad for Liberty Records. It was in responding to that ad they he met lyricist Bernie Taupin, and the two struck up a partnership that launched the career of Elton John.
Each of the first three albums that Elton John released in the U.S., Elton John (1970), Tumbleweed Connection (1970) and Madman Across the Water (1971), all charted in the Top 10. It was his fourth released album that marked the beginning of a string of six consecutive #1 albums for Elton John. Honky Chateau (1972) featured the single 'Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time)', a song that has maintained popularity even thirty years after its original release. He has since released a countless number of studio, live and compilation albums as well as hit singles over his career, all as original as him.
Now forty years and over 250 million albums sold later, Elton John can safely say he is a rock legend and will be remembered for years to come. Elton John has won five Grammy Awards over his career, including two awards for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
