About the Essence Music Festival

The Essence Fest was founded in 1995 to highlight the African American music scene. Headliners in past years included Kanye West, Beyonce, Chris Brown, and LL Cool J. Essence is held annually at the Louisiana Superdome. Since it was first launched, the event has grown considerably. In some cases, Essence Festival tickets have completely sold out for individual artists, attracting more than 70,000 people.
