Chaim Topol is giving his last performances as Tevye on the Farewell Tour, and audiences love his singing, dancing, and acting. In addition, Susan Cella plays Golde, David Brummel portrays Lazar Wolf, and Erik Liberman plays Motel the tailor. The schedule includes Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, and other cities, so Topol may come to a venue near you!
Choreographed by the famous Jerome Robbins of West Side Story, Joseph Stein's classic musical takes place in Anatevka, a Jewish Russian village. Along with Yente the local matchmaker, the dairyman looks for husbands for his five daughters, but Tzeitel, Hodel, and Chava have marriage plans of their own. Meanwhile, the political situation is tense, and persecution threatens Tevye and the Jewish community.

Based on a 1894 story by the Yiddish writer Sholem Aleichem, the first big production of Fiddler on the Roof opened in 1964 at the Imperial Theatre. With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein, the production starred Zero Mostel and Maria Karnilova, and a young Bette Midler played Tzeitel on some days. In a glowing New York Times review, Howard Taubman said the musical "has an honest feeling for another place, time and people". Completing over three thousand performances, the show set a record for the longest run on Broadway and Fiddler on the Roof tickets sold quickly.
Set in Russia of 1905, the musical takes place during the Russian revolution in a small Jewish village called Anatevka. Along with his wife Golde, Tevye the dairy worker believes in tradition. He prepares to find husbands for his five daughters, but they have other ideas. Tzeitel, his oldest child, wants to marry a tailor named Motel Kamzoil. To make matters worse, Hodel and Chava also ignore Yente the Matchmaker. The girls love unsuitable men, Perchik the radical and Fyedka the gentile. But this may be the least of their problems as pogroms and the Tsar threaten the Jews. As the story proceeds, the family could lose everything that matters.
Fiddler opened the door to serious musicals, such as The Color Purple and Les Miserables. Critics loved the cast, dancing, plot, and songs like "Sunrise, Sunset" and "Do You Love Me?" In 1971, United Artists released a film adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof. With music conducted by John Williams, the movie won three Academy Awards and introduced an Israeli actor named Chaim Topol as Tevye. Initially, fans hoped Mostel would win the role, but audiences appreciated the talented Topol on stage, Broadway revivals, and his current farewell tour. At age 73, the beloved star is pouring his heart into his swan song performances.
Now, people with Fiddler Tour tickets have one last chance to see a legendary actor in his greatest role. No matter what dates you prefer, you'll find a wide selection of cheap Fiddler on the Roof seats from TicketNetwork.
