Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Flashdance the Musical is based on the 1983 film of the same name. It starred Jennifer Beals, who went on to act in movies and television shows such asThe L Word and Lie to Me. Its iconic chair dance scene, wherein the film’s main character dances to the song "Flashdance" before pouring water on herself, became the basis of Jennifer Lopez music video in 2003 "I’m Glad".
The stage adaptation premiered in July 2009 in the U.K., with a Broadway production and a U.S. tour emerging in 2011. Songs include the Academy Award-winning song "Flashdance – What a Feeling," as well as "Maniac," and "I Love Rock & Roll." Choreography is by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis); Robert Cary directs.
