About Florence and the Machine

Florence and the Machine are an English indie pop group that consists of Florence Welch, who is the lead singer. She recruits a variety of musicians to form the Machine. The band's lineup isn’t permanent, so it changes over time. After forming in 2007 the group immediately headed out on tour. In 2009 the band released its first album, Lungs, which immediately took a place at #2 on the UK charts. It would later find an audience in the United States after its single "Dogs Days are Over" was performed at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

Following the extensive first Florence and the Machine tour, which lasted for almost three years, the band got back to work in the studio on their next album. Ceremonials was released in October of 2011 to a mostly positive critical reception. The Ceremonials Tour started shortly thereafter.

Welch is known for her unique fashion style as much as her music, and often wears clothes from second-hand stores that mimic the styles of Stevie Nicks. Welch has also stated that she finds inspiration from Kate Bush, Bjork, and PJ Harvey. Florence and the Machine has been nominated for a number of awards.
