About Foster the People

Foster the People is an American indie pop group comprised of Mark Foster, Cubbie Fink, and Mark Pontius. They were founded in 2009 when Foster joined Pontius who left his band Malbec for Foster. They were soon joined by bassist Fink.

Their breakthrough hit was "Pumped up Kicks," which was initially offered as free download in 2010. The song became successful due to a viral reposting campaign. They next released a non-commercial EP in January 2011and their first full length album Torches was released in May 2011. The band credits Sirius radio for being the first to play their music and attributed the beginning success to the Alt Nation radio station on Sirius.

Initial touring for the group proved difficult as many venues were hesitant to book a talent that did not have any touring experience. They performed at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in 2011, and along with some perseverence, were able to build up a fanbase.
