Following the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995, the remaining members of The Grateful Dead broke up the band. In the following years, the former bandmates furthered their careers by taking part in several projects, including Phil Lesh and Friends and Bob Weir's Ratdog. In 1998, they and Mickey Hart formed The Other Ones, which changed its name to The Dead in 2003. After its 2009 tour, Lesh and Weir, looking to work with each other more often, decided to create Furthur. Since the band's formation, it has held two tours: one in the fall of 2009, and another in February and March of 2010.
