The 1990 romantic drama Ghost has been adapted for the stage and recently made a successful Broadway debut. The motion picture, starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg, was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film went on to bring home two Oscars, including the award for Best Original Screenplay, and Ghost screenplay writer Bruce Joel Rubin is the creative force behind this musical adaptation. Rubin wrote the book for Ghost the Musical and teamed up with Dave Steward and Glen Ballard to write the music and lyrics for the show.
Ghost the Musical first premiered in Manchester, England, in March of 2011 before moving to the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End in June of the same year. The show moved to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre to begin previews on Broadway on March 15, 2012. Ghost the Musical is the stage adaptation of the 1990 film, and it follows the same plot. In the center of the story are Sam and Molly, a couple that is attacked one night as they return to the apartment they share. Sam is shot during the attack and dies.
Sam, however, does not leave the real world completely and instead lingers as a spirit because he cannot leave behind Molly, who is still in danger.
