Godspell Tickets

What started as a college project became a phenomenon. The show was originally written by John-Michael Trebelak as part of his master’s thesis at Carnegie Mellon University in 1970. It moved to La MaMa Experimental Theater in Greenwich Village for ten performances and then had one of the longest Off-Broadway runs of any musical. Award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz wrote new songs for the Off-Broadway run including "Day by Day," which was #13 on the Billboard Top 100 Chart in 1972. Not only did this amazing show then move to Broadway for 527 performances, it was also made into a movie in 1973 starring Victor Garber. Godspell tickets were most recently available for a triumphant return to Broadway in 2011 under the direction of Daniel Goldstein, with a star-studded cast including Hunter Parrish, Wallace Smith and Anna Mari Perez de Tagle.

Godspell Plot Summary

Godspell is a rock opera that teaches lessons of love and acceptance through a series of well-known parables. The majority of the parables come from The Gospel of Matthew with a few from The Gospel of Luke. The show features Jesus, Judas and John the Baptist, with the remaining performers often going by their own first names. The lighthearted and joyful treatment of the universal messages of loyalty, love and community make this a show that can touch the hearts of everyone who sees it.
