About Hootie & the Blowfish

Darius Rucker, Dean Felber, Jim Sonefeld, and Mark Bryan got together in 1986 at the University of South Carolina to form the band Hootie & the Blowfish. Hootie & the Blowfish began recording on their own and independently released two demo tapes in 1991 and 1992. The group broke into the mainstream with their album Cracked Rear View in 1994. The album quickly became a success and ultimately sold 16 million copies; Cracked Rear View also became the best-selling album of 1995.

In 1996, Hootie & the Blowfish won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist; following their Grammy win, the band released a new album entitled Fairweather Johnson, which contained the hit single, "Old Man and Me." The single rose to #13 on the US charts, but the album began to lose steam after selling 4 million copies. Trailing the release of Fairweather Johnson, Hootie & the Blowfish released three more studio albums including Musical Chairs (1998), Hootie & the Blowfish (2003), and Looking for Lucky (2005). Hootie & the Blowfish also released the following compilation albums: Scattered, Smothered and Covered (2000), The Best of Hootie & the Blowfish (2004), and Live in Charleston (2006).
