Jennifer Nettles was born in Georgia in 1974 and was raised in the small town of Douglas. Growing up, Nettles performed music at her church, school assemblies, and also at her local community theater.
While attending Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA, Nettles met Cory Jones with whom she formed the duo Soul Miner’s Daughter. In 1999, Nettles formed the Jennifer Nettles Band, which included four other members. Together, the band released three studio albums and two live albums.
In 2003, Nettles teamed up with Kirsten Hall and Kristian Bush to form Sugarland. With Nettles as the group’s lead singer, the band signed with Mercury Nashville Records in 2004 and released their debut single, “Baby Girl,” which reached number two on the US Hot Country Songs chart. “Baby Girl” would be included on their first album, Twice the Speed of Life, which was certified 3x multi-platinum in the United States.
Hall left the group after the release of their debut album, and Sugarland become a duo consisting of Nettles and Bush. The two went on to release three more albums, including the 2006 album, Enjoy the Ride, which produced the Grammy Award single, “Stay.”
Although the duo has not released an album since 2010, Nettles has continued to stay busy. In 2014, she released her debut solo album, That Girl. In 2015, Nettles is embarking on a 20-city tour that will make stops across the country throughout the fall months.
