About Jessica Simpson

Jessica Ann Simpson was born on July 10, 1980, in Abilene, TX; she has a younger sister, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, who is also in the entertainment industry. Both girls are managed by their father, Joe Truett Simpson. Jessica Simpson's career began when she was in high school and had released a self-titled gospel album at the age of 16. Prior to releasing the album, Jessica Simpson had auditioned for the Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club. The gospel album was not a great success, but Simpson still ended up signing with Columbia Records in 1998.

In 2000, Jessica Simpson released her first major-label album, entitled Sweet Kisses. The album reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually reached double platinum status. Following the release of Sweet Kisses, Simpson went out on tour with the band 98 Degrees. During this time, she also starred in a 98 Degrees music video, where she played Nick Lachey's love interest, and she became his real love interest shortly after. In 2001, the year following the release of Sweet Kisses, Jessica Simpson's management and label knew that she would have to change her image a bit after the releases of albums by Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Simpson's next release, Irresistible, peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. As of today, Irresistible has sold about 825,000 copies.

In October 2002, Jessica Simpson married Nick Lachey. Shortly after they were wed, the couple starred in the MTV reality show Newlyweds. During the filming of the show, Jessica Simpson released her next album, entitled In This Skin, in 2003. In This Skin debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified quadruple platinum.

Following the successful release of In This Skin and her appearance on Newlyweds, Simpson decided to try her hand at acting. She appeared as Daisy in the 2005 remake of The Dukes of Hazzard and in October 2006, she starred alongside comedian Dane Cook in Employee of the Month. Jessica Simpson's third movie role was played in Blonde Ambition, which was released in December 2007. Simpson's last pop album before her transition over to country was released in August 2006 and was entitled A Public Affair; the album peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Jessica Simpson soon announced that she had decided to cross over from pop to country, and she released her first country album, Do You Know, in 2008.
