Jimmy Buffett was born on Christmas Day, 1946, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Buffett grew up in Alabama and began to take up guitar while attending the University of Southern Mississippi. Fresh out of college with a love of music, Jimmy headed to Nashville. Not long after arriving in Nashville in 1969, he began to build up connections in the business which ultimately led to his first record deal. He first two attempts were commericial failures. After traveling to Miami, Florida, for a gig, only to find it was not going to happen, he went for a drive down the Florida A1A and found himself in Key West, the place that would become his adoptive home and inspiration for several of his songs.
It was in Key West that Jimmy Buffett created the tropical rock, country, and folk-infused sound he is now known for. His third album, 1973's A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean contained the single "Why Don't We Get Drunk?", a song that is now a staple of any Buffett concert. Over the next quarter century, Jimmy Buffet would release a number of successful albums including 1977's Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, 1985's Songs You Know by Heart, and 1992's Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads, but he is best known for his catchy singles. The songs "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" are among his most popular songs and have even produced their own restaurant chains. Other singles include "Come Monday," "Hey Good Lookin'," and "It's Five O'clock Somewhere," recorded with Alan Jackson.
Both "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" have been turned into successful restaurant chains. Buffett is now a smash success, but he still takes time out to tour.
