Blues musician Joe Bonamassa was born on May 8, 1977 in Upstate New York. Bonamassa’s father was a passionate music fan and began teaching him how to play guitar at age four. His father also exposed Bonamassa to lots of blues rock, including music from Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, who Bonamassa credited with much of his influence.

By age 12, Bonamassa had formed his own band called Smokin’ Joe Bonamassa. The band performed on weekends throughout Upstate New York and Pennsylvania. Around the same time, in 1989, Bonamassa also served as the opening act at approximately twenty B.B. King concerts.

In 2000, Bonamassa released his debut album A New Day Yesterday. The album featured both original music and covers of artists, including Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull, and Warren Haynes. The album was met with commercial success and peaked at number nine on the US Billboard Top Blues Albums chart.

Bonamassa’s second studio album, So, It’s Like That was released in 2002 and consisted entirely of original material. The album topped the US Billboard Top Blues Albums chart.

As of 2015, Bonamassa has released 11 studio albums, most recently Different Shades of Blue in 2014. Out of those albums, seven peaked at the number one spot on the US Billboard Top Blues Albums chart. In 2015, Bonamassa embarked on a tour that will take him to cities across the United States throughout the summer and fall months.
