John Clayton Mayer was born on October 16, 1977 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Although John Mayer was not always into music, he began playing the violin and clarinet as a child, and soon became enthralled with pop, jazz, and blues music. After seeing Michael J. Fox play "Johnny Be Goode" in Back to the Future (1985), John Mayer became interested in guitar as well. By the time he was sixteen, Mayer was performing in local clubs and bars. John Mayer also formed his first band, called Villanova Junction, around this time, but the group did not stay together for very long.
In 1996, John Mayer enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. However, he dropped out after only one year of studies, and moved to Atlanta, GA with his friend, Clay Cook. The duo formed a group called LoFi Masters and frequented local venues. Not long after, the friends parted ways due to creative differences and John Mayer embarked on a solo career.
John Mayer released the independent EP Inside Wants Out in 1999, which contained the song "No Such Thing." Inside Wants Out earned Mayer the attention of Aware Records, who began promoting his music on compilation albums and on tour. John Mayer released his first full-length album, Room for Squares, in 2000 and was picked up by Columbia Records the same year. Columbia re-released a remixed version of Room for Squares, and the album began flying off the shelves.
Singles like "Your Body Is a Wonderland" and "Why Georgia" shot John Mayer into stardom, and he earned a Grammy in 2003 for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. That same year, Mayer released his second studio album, Heavier Things. Though the album only sold about half as many copies as its predecessor, it reached #1 on the albums chart and earned John Mayer two more Grammys, both for the song "Daughters."
Throughout his career, fans have bought up John Mayer tickets whenever they got the chance. This is partially due to his versatility as a musician, as collaborations with artists like Kanye West, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Alicia Keys, and Fall Out Boy have extended John Mayer's popularity into many musical genres. In 2005, John Mayer formed the John Mayer Trio, who played rock and blues music. The Trio opened for the Rolling Stones and have a studio album in the works.
Most recently, John Mayer released the album Continuum, which contains the singles "Waiting on the World to Change," "Gravity," and "Dreaming with a Broken Heart." Due to his immense popularity, John Mayer tickets can be extremely hard to find.
